I have been participating in the Mysore practice with Bella and Manu since they first started in Oxford. They both have wonderful patience and compassion to help the unyielding muscles and creaky bones. I have used Ashtanga as a method to rehabilitate some serious injuries to my knees when I ruptured my cruciate ligaments, to help my degenerative spine stay flexible and strong and to help after some invasive surgery following cancer. I place complete trust in their expertise. As an experienced Pilates teacher, I know that without Ashtanga I would not be as fit and supple as I am which allows me to ski, open water dive, and walk long distances. I think I am the oldest in the class, so I can confidently say that you can enjoy the benefits well into those twilight years.

Getting to practise with Bella and Manu is one of the greatest things about living in Oxford. They both carry such warmth and grace, which makes yoga much more than a physical practice. Yoga teaches me to bend, flex and balance. But much more importantly, it enables me to widen the gaps between each thought and let my mind sit still for longer than it ever has before.

Practicing Ashtanga yoga with Manu and Bella has kept me healthy and grounded, and makes all my other responsibilities seem more manageable! It is lovely to explore Ashtanga with the wonderful community of people, both teachers and students, who go to the Mysore room in the morning.

Morning Ashtanga practice is an essential part of our lives. We feel totally held in a caring, nuturing space while we learn more about ourselves through the practice of yoga. What we like about Mysore practice is that you grow at your own pace. Through the practice of Ashtanga we feel more balanced, focused, spiritually connected to others and to self. Manu & Bella are both exceptional teachers who give all their attention and energy to the person they are assisting. We imagine this is what Mysore must be like…well with more sun and coconuts 🙂

Manu is very encouraging and positive, and knows when you can go further in a posture. His love for Ashtanga is infectious and there is always a wonderful energy in his classes.

I came to yoga in a time in my life when I was carrying a lot of stress and anxiety. I was a total novice. But it literally changed my life. Day by day I noticed that when I gave myself to 15-20 mins of yoga it quietened my spirit and I noticed that my whole thinking changed – from a distressed, tight mind to one that felt calm and had inner stillness. I still practice 3-4 times a week and I’m in no doubt that Ashtanga yoga has helped change my life…forever
